What is the difference between gracie barra and gracie humaita
Probably more effective if you're pitting a student from one school against the other. In other words a sport oriented school is training to grapple against primarily other BJJ practitioners.
Doesn't mean one is better than the other, it comes down to the instructor. If you actually post the names of the schools, we can help you much more, since there are members of this forum who are all over the world and probably know about the schools in your area. SuperSuperRambo , Feb 19, It also says he's a 3rd degree black belt. Gracie Jiujitsu as taught at the Gracie Academy has more of a self defense related approach, while Gracie Barra isn't as focused on self defense.
Alaskantkdkid , Feb 19, Looks legit. The instructor is a black belt world champion , and that is verified by the IBJJF just looked it up on their website.
I don't know of him personally, but his credentials and background suggest that it's definitely a quality place to train.
And honestly, I think that's even more of a good place because you don't live in a major urban area, and it's not that common to find a black belt world champ teaching outside of a big population centers. Joined: Jun 6, Messages: 2, Likes Received: 0. I would sign up for the GB school.
KarateFist , Feb 19, Sounds awesome go for it! I'd do it. I train under a non-affiliated GB BB, and he's probably the most technically knowledgeable guy I've ever trained with. Uchi Mata , Feb 19, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is how Gracie family call his jiu-jitsu style, that is known around the world as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Its also the name of association managed today by Helio Gracie' sons. They are focused on self defense jiu-jitsu as developed by Helio Gracie.
Sometimes refereed as Gracie Humaita, has the famous yellow logo with two guys grappling in the middle of a triangle.
Gracie Barra is another association from Gracie family, was created by Carlos Gracie Jr and evolved in a large worldwide chain of schools. Gracie Barra's logo is red, also very famous. Barra and Humaita are the names of neighborhoods were gyms were founded here in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I don't think is good to use Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to refer about Brazilian jiu-jitsu because there is a non Gracie lineage from master Oswaldo Fadda.
The famous Rodolfo Vieira is from Fadda lineage. And me too! Joined: Dec 14, Messages: 1, Likes Received: 5. The beggining curriculum is very similar just like others have said.
You can go wrong with either. It's sport vr street. Although for the most part if you are good a sport bjj you are going to be fine on the street if you tweak your game a little and are aware of a few things. Not really. Think of lineage like a quality guarantee. The world of martial arts has always been full of phonies. Jiu-Jitsu is more spar intensive than almost every other martial art, which makes it a little harder to be a complete fraud — but there are still many sketchy characters around.
Some instructors award black belts to themselves, for instance, or have questionable criteria when it comes to promoting their students. This is why most accomplished Jiu-Jitsu players will always note who awarded them their black belt.
Marcos Nevel received his black belt in from Master Royler Gracie. There are few names in Jiu-Jitsu that are as respected as Royler Gracie. The answer requires a brief history lesson. Ok, so I really do not know the real differences between them, as to who started them, and what the big issue is between the two teams. Can anyone elaborate on this for me? While the origins are not really clear or at least hard to explain the breakdown looks like this: Gracie Humaitia: Basically the Helio Gracie side of the Family.
Gracie Barra: The Carlos Gracie side of the family. Carlos Gracie Jr. Close to the family this fighting jiu jitsu, but in an effort to bring jiu jitsu to the masses the emphasis is on competition techniques.
There are some great competitors from the Humaita side ie. Saulo and Xande and Royler, but when you see a bunch of leading edge competition techniques that will get you destroyed in a ral fight on the latest video or magazine cover, odds are they are from Barra or a derivative.
Both systems emphasize sweeps and escaping mount, which is all you need to know from bjj in a real fight. In a real fight you want to create space and get away. BJJ works just the opposite. I don't have a dog in this fight. However, I don't think Gracie Barra is watered down. It is more broad, encompassing more positions. Humaita is still successful in competition, but they have self defense at the forefront of their jiujitsu, so they don't explore many other positions that have been explored and developed by Barra or Alliance for that matter.
The force is strong with both camps. CaptainBurma - ttt for knowing the history, but both are impractical for self defense, unless you're going to be in mano to mano beach fights. Very poorly written and thought out post by someone who hasn't spent any real time training or drilling in either. Helio was only interested in real life applications to jiu jitsu The standup portion of Helio's self defense jiu jitsu was a very big part of his style Control the distance Initiating contact at the right time and getting into a safe clinch.
Strikes are applied, but only like submissions Helio , for self defense, taught to keep the fight standing Go to ground only if forced to
